Compact History Day Trip

If you are a history person you definitely need to visit some of the most iconic sights of Corfu island. One of the must-visit places is the Achilleion Palace. Built at the top of a lush hill, next to the beautiful traditional village of Gastouri, Achilleion offers to its visitors, apart from a magnificent view to Corfu town and the South coast, a journey to the rich history of Corfu and Europe of the last three centuries.
The palace was initially built for the Empress of Austria Elisabeth (Sissy), but it was later used for multiple purposes including hosting the casino of Corfu. In our days, the Achilleion operates as a museum.
When in Achilleion, do not forget to visit the village of Gastouri and get refreshed at the village’s spring.
Choose to leave Gastouri and Achilleion by following the road that leads to Benitses village. A traditional fishing village where you can rest and enjoy a drink or local dishes.
